Art House Convergence
Ann Arbor, Michigan
RUSS COLLINS believes in the value and power of art and community. Since 1982, fortified by two degrees from the U of Michigan, he has served as the Executive Director of the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor. He is a community leader, teacher, IndieWire “Influencer," was Knighted by Italy for promotion of film culture (but would be embarrassed if called you him "Sir Russ" or "Cavaliere Collins") and founder of Art House Convergence and Cinetopia Festival. HIS INSPIRATION: Art is important. It ennobles the human spirit, documents civilized society, and helps folks deal with life's complexities. HIS WORK: 1) Preserve Ann Arbor’s historic Michigan and State Theaters and attract the community to their excellent cinema screens and appealing performing arts stage; 2) Through Art House Convergence convene passionate theatrical purveyors to increase the quantity and quality of community-based, mission-driven cinemas in North America; 3) In communities of the Detroit/Ann Arbor region build an annual festival to bring celebrated films and filmmakers from around the world to this American metropolis to expand the love and support of cinema in the region; 4) With passion raise funds to accomplish the above. Russ is married to Deb Polich a similarly passionate Arts Administrator. They have three married 30-something children and two cuddly, wonderful grandchildren.
