Beth Anderson’s sweet sixteen was the biggest day of her life: she could finally drive herself to the local video store to rent her own movies. She never thought that the late nights watching VHS tapes in the family room would be relevant to her career (neither did her parents), but in 2012 she joined the marketing staff of the Avalon Theatre in Washington, DC where, among other things, she could watch movie trailers and call it “work.”

Along the circuitous path that led to the Avalon, Beth spent over 10 years at digital agencies advising corporate and specialty brands including AT&T (where her team created the company’s digital branding guidelines), HP, State Farm, Canyon Ranch and her personal favorite, Vosges Haut-Chocolat. She received an MBA in Marketing from the University of Texas at Austin in 2005, an M.A. in Literature from the University of South Carolina in 1995 (ostensibly in American Literature, though her master’s thesis was written on the positive feminist qualities of a 1992 horror comedy named Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and a B.A. in English from Texas Christian University in 1993. She lives in Washington, DC with her husband and two daughters.
